XRF Bead Recycling
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is used extensively by mineral resources and industrial sectors to analyse and determine the elemental composition of samples tested. XRF is the emission of X-rays from a material after being excited using high energy X-rays or gamma rays. Each element has a unique emission profile after being excited by a radiation source and the subsequent electron shift from losing an inner electron.
Sample preparation is an important consideration before analysing a sample using XRF. The addition of Lithium Borate fluxes provides an efficient intermediate step to convert the original sample into glass beads suitable for XRF analysis. The intermediate steps provide advantages including analysing consistent particle sizes and improving calibration standards for sample characterisation.
There are a number of fluxes available in a range of ratios to provide optimal conditions for elemental analysis. Dingo Technology specialises in recycling and recovering Lithium Tetraborate and Lithium Metaborate from used XRF beads. Our recycled special granular 12-part lithium Tetraborate to 22-part Lithium Metaborate XRF Flux (12:22) can be used as a matrix to produce glass discs ready for XRF spectroscopy analysis.
Dingo Technology has partnered with West Australian mining and resource sectors who are passionate about reducing their environmental footprint. It is estimated that across Australia 120 tonnes of X-ray flux is used which was all previously destined for landfill. In addition, the European Union has classified borates as a "Critical Raw Material" emphasising the importance of recycling XRF Flux.
Dingo Technology's 2030 Stretch goal is to process 100% of Australian XRF Lithium fusion bead waste.
